Building Sustainability: Energy Efficiency Key to Reducing Workplace Carbon Footprint
Energy efficiency in buildings, particularly reducing energy use is a key to organisations reducing their carbon footprint and reducing energy costs. According to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), buildings (commercial and domestic) are responsible for at least 40% of energy use in most countries. In order to reduce energy use, organisations need to measure existing and ongoing energy consumption, present this information to building occupants to encourage behavioural change and implement energy saving measures.

Key Technology Trends Being Presented
- Benchmarking and Ongoing Measurement of Energy Use/Carbon Emissions e.g. Advanced Metering, Building Management Systems, Carbon Trackers
- Presentation of Energy Consumption to Employees and Clients e.g. Carbon Dashboards, Geographical Property Portal
- Personal Monitoring and Control of Energy Consumption e.g. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Tokens
- Real Time Measurement of Building Utilisation using RFID Tokens
- Integration of HVAC and lighting with space scheduling solutions
- Hibernation of office space to save energy
- Accurate carbon cost charge-back to employees / departments
